How to check in online with WestJet

Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Use the button at the top of this page or visit westjet.com directly. Avoid third-party "check-in" sites.

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The WestJet app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common WestJet check-in problems
UltraBasic fare excludes checked bag
Problem: WestJet's UltraBasic fare on domestic + transborder routes excludes checked bag. Adding 23 kg costs CAD 35–60 online.
Solution: Pre-pay during booking or upgrade to Econo fare which includes one free checked bag on most routes.
Encore feeder operations
Problem: WestJet Encore (regional, Q400 turboprops) operates feeder routes for WestJet mainline. Different baggage rules for some regional flights.
Solution: Verify operating airline on ticket. Encore flights: same fare classes but limited overhead bin space due to aircraft size.

Is WestJet a budget airline?
