How to check in online with KLM

Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Open the official check-in page
Use the button at the top of this page or visit klm.com directly. Avoid third-party "check-in" sites.

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The KLM app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common KLM check-in problems
Trans-Atlantic flights require Secure Flight data
Problem: Flights to the US/Canada are blocked at check-in until full passenger Secure Flight info is added.
Solution: Open My Trip → Passenger Details and complete passport, redress number (if any), and date of birth at least 24h before.
Schiphol bag-drop closes early
Problem: AMS bag-drop counters close 40 minutes before departure for short-haul, 60 minutes for long-haul.
Solution: Allow 90+ min at AMS for short-haul, 2.5 hours for long-haul including passport control.

When does KLM check-in open?
30 hours before departure for most flights. Long-haul flights to the US/Asia open 24 hours before due to Secure Flight processing.
Does KLM include a free carry-on?
Yes — Economy includes one personal item plus one cabin bag (55×35×25 cm, 12 kg) on most fare types. Light fares have hand baggage only without checked bag.
