Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The Vietnam Airlines app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common Vietnam Airlines check-in problems
Vietnam visa-on-arrival not for direct entry
Problem: Visa on arrival in Vietnam requires a pre-approval letter; can't be obtained spontaneously at HAN/SGN.
Solution: Apply for e-visa 30 days before flight at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn (~$25). Most OECD passports now eligible for 90-day e-visa.
Domestic check-in needs ID at every checkpoint
Problem: Vietnam domestic flights have ID checks at airport entry, security, and gate — adds 15 min vs international layouts.
