How to check in online with ITA Airways

Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Use the button at the top of this page or visit ita-airways.com directly. Avoid third-party "check-in" sites.

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The ITA Airways app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common ITA Airways check-in problems
Saver Light fare excludes checked bag
Problem: ITA's cheapest Saver Light fare on intra-Europe excludes any checked bag.
Solution: Pre-pay during booking (~€30) or upgrade to Saver which includes 23 kg checked baggage.
Lufthansa partnership transition
Problem: Lufthansa Group's acquisition (2024) means some routes co-operated; check-in flow can change.
Solution: Verify operating airline. ITA-LH joint venture rolling out — codeshare flights need check-in via operating carrier.

Is ITA Airways the same as Alitalia?
No — ITA Airways was founded in 2021 as the successor company after Alitalia's bankruptcy. ITA acquired the Alitalia brand and many routes but operates as a separate company.
When does ITA Airways check-in open?
24 hours before scheduled departure. Closes 45 minutes before for international, 30 minutes for Italian domestic.
