How to check in online with Finnair

Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Use the button at the top of this page or visit finnair.com directly. Avoid third-party "check-in" sites.

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The Finnair app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common Finnair check-in problems
Light fare on intra-Europe excludes checked bag
Problem: Finnair's Light fare on European routes doesn't include any checked baggage.
Solution: Pre-pay during booking or upgrade to Standard fare which includes 23 kg + free seat selection.
Russia airspace closures lengthen Asia routes
Problem: Russia's airspace closure (since 2022) means HEL-Asia routes now go via the polar route, adding 2–3 hours.
Solution: Check actual flight duration in the app — it can be significantly longer than schedules suggested. Stock up on entertainment and rest before flights.

Russia's airspace closure since 2022 means Finnair flights to East Asia (Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong) now route via the polar region, adding 2–3 hours flight time.
