How to check in online with Delta Air Lines

Have your booking reference and ID ready
You'll need a 6-character booking reference (PNR) and a valid travel document (passport or EU/EEA national ID).

Open the official check-in page
Use the button at the top of this page or visit delta.com directly. Avoid third-party "check-in" sites.

Enter passenger details
Add passport / ID number, expiry date, and country of issue if travelling internationally. This step is mandatory and blocks check-in if skipped.

Choose seats and add extras
Random seats are free in the 24-hour window; named seats and priority boarding cost extra. Skip if you don't need them.

Save the boarding pass
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The Delta Air Lines app stores it offline once downloaded.

Common Delta Air Lines check-in problems
Basic Economy doesn't allow advance check-in
Problem: Delta Basic Economy (E fare) cannot check in until exactly 24 hours before departure, and seats are auto-assigned at boarding.
Solution: Set a calendar reminder for the check-in window. If you want a specific seat, upgrade to Main Cabin (M fare) at booking.
International APIS data delays check-in
Problem: Flights to/from the US require APIS (Advance Passenger Information) and Secure Flight data. Missing data blocks online check-in.
Solution: Add full passport details and US destination address in 'My Trips' at least 24 hours before departure.

When does Delta check-in open?
24 hours before scheduled departure for most flights. Closes 30 minutes before for domestic, 60 minutes before for international.
Does Delta charge for the first checked bag?
Yes — $35–$40 for the first checked bag on domestic flights ($35 if pre-paid online, $40 at airport). Delta SkyMiles status holders, military, and certain card holders get free first bag.
